Is it just me, or does John Rambo remind you of Big Boss from the Metal Gear Solid saga? 😉
Rambo II takes place some time after the events of Rambo: First Blood.
Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) tries to get away from his past but of course one day Colonel shows up and asks him to participate in a secret scout mission to find out where the Cambodian army is hiding their POWs.
Of course things go wrong and Rambo has to shoot his way out 😉
First Blood is a great movie. It’s not only an action movie but also has a lot to say about Vietnam and its veterans and how the American public miss judges it’s veteran soldiers.
Rambo II on the other hand keeps those undertones but first and foremost feels like a big action movie with to much explosions, literally. Is it disappointing? Maybe if you expected the depth of the first one. Is it fun? Yup! 🙂
Let’s not talk about the story here because it’s very simple. But let’s talk about the action.
Mam oh man, somebody has had too much TNT in his back pockets during production. Everything blows up, from buildings, to cars, to trees, boats, basically everything.
It only makes sense to introduce Rambo to one of his signature weapons in this movie: his bow caster with explosive arrow heads. Whaaat?! That’s so awesome, in a guilty pleasures way of course 😉
But yah, just try to think for a second of such a weapon and you know what this movie is all about.
The performances range from really good to pretty bad, especially when we get to the side characters and villain territory. It sometimes feels like a B-movie but then again the movie reminds you with the big action set pieces that it’s not fooling around, but spends a lot of money, just in the right places of course 😉
Well, if you like over the top action movies you probably gonna have fun with the film. If you don’t like action flicks, stay the hell away from it 😉 It never reaches the depths of the first Rambo, but sure is a fun time for a lazy evening.
