Whereas i really liked Friday the 13th part 1 and 2, by the 3rd movie the formula is getting old. It’s basically the 2nd movie all over again, minus the clever ending that gave some backstory to the 2nd movie and gave Jason a reason to kill.
This time around it really is just a movie about creative kills of young people AGAIN, having their hollydays at lake Crystal AGAIN, being of course killed AGAIN, except of one person AGAIN, who survives by some miracle AGAIN, that AGAIN doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. And AGAIN the movie starts with a flashback from the previous film showing how it ended, which this time around is around 10 minutes long. Really??? You show me almost the entire final act of the previous movie to start it off? Jeez… It’s just annoying.
Furthermore, by that time the series seems to start drifting towards trashy slasher film. The actors are really bad this time around (there is a biker gang that I just couldn’t take) and the characters they play are also annoying, especially this fat dude. Sorry, but it’s not my fault that the most idiotic and dumb character is an ugly fat kid. It’s like the movie actually tries to make us disrespect fat people. Ugh! What happened to the time when the disabled person actually was the coolest dude around (Friday the 13th part 2)?
Anyway, there is some really trashy kills and scenes that really took me out of the movie. Also, the makeup looks so bad. The entire movie actually feels like a B movie. Yes, yes, the first two were also B movies, but you didn’t feel it as much because they felt more clever and the actors were actually good. Also, the whispering-voices soundtrack is getting old by now and starts to feel like a gimmick.
I think I will stop watching the series, unless a group of friends joins me to make fun of it cause unfortunately the series is definitely moving into that direction. It’s really too bad cause in this movie we see Jason actually wearing his signature hockey mask for the first time. Btw. This movie also didn’t have any boob scenes which definitely is a negative!
