WATCH THE TRAILER

Meh! That was so underwhelming. I normally am a secret fan of Guillermo Del Torro. His style is quite unique and I’m always interested in his upcoming projects. However, this movie felt like I have seen it a million times before. A haunted house by people who got killed in it terrorizing the new visitors…

Really?! That’s the best they did come up with? Of course when you look at the details there is more to it, especially a love story that didn’t do much for the plot. The basic premise though sounds as generic as it is. Not even Del Torro’s style is able to elevate the material.

PERFORMANCES

I also didn’t enjoy the actors. Nobody stood out performance wise. Tom Hiddelston may be a beloved actor for his work as Loki in the Avengers, but honestly, I have never been that impressed by him. He yet has to blow my mind.

The main character played by Mia Wasikowska was also kind of one note and Charlie Hunnam’s character I already forgot what his purpose was.

Jessica Chastain was the only one who stood out. She played the villain role and I found her to be pretty ok in it. At least she got across what she was supposed to do. And yeah, she is pretty sexy, even when being evil. Unfortunately she had to dye he beautiful red hair for the movie.

OTHER THINGS

It got pretty gory at the end which I liked as well and the ghosts were actually pretty scary looking. But that you can expect from Guillermo Del Torro.

CONCLUSION

So unfortunately I can’t recommend the movie. I wasn’t actually too excited to watch it yesterday, but I thought hey it’s Halloween, what else am I gonna do? Germans are not into Halloween that much, so there we go. Well, I should have watched the original Nightmare on Elms Street which was playing right next to it! 😉
