It’s Halloween and I’m starting my weekend horror movie watch. Unfortunately, I picked not a very good one to start it off with.
It Follows is a slasher movie where the slasher is invisible and only walks, kind of. The idea behind it is pretty interesting actually because it pokes homage to some of the traditional slasher films where we have the walking killer murdering everybody. Here the killer is only interested in one person, until he murders him/her and the picks the next one. Keep in mind he only walks 😉
So the problem is not the premise, but the pacing!! Oh my god was it boring at times! The entire first half of the movie is standing still. Nothing cool happens and I fell asleep twice. It’s just about half time of the film that it starts to take off. However, it’s too late because I almost shut it off by that time. Good that I didn’t because the finale of the movie is pretty sweet and I’m glad I watched it. But the road to get to it was almost unbearable, at least for my taste. I like slow paced movies, if they can keep me interested with a nice performance by an actor or some cool music+cinematography or some cool dialogue. None of that was present besides some cool shots, that weirdly enough most of them don’t go anywhere. It’s kinda weird to describe it, but see for yourself. It’s like a scene is building up, some dark music is cueing in, the camera focuses on the background, AND??? Nothing!! What a waste of energy!
Anyway, it’s not a disaster and you won’t want to kill yourself after watching it, but there was so much more possible with the premise than what we got here. As I said, the last 15 minutes were great!
