INITIAL REACTION

I loved this movie! I didn’t know what to expect at all, but when the name Scorsese popped up at the beginning credits I knew I was in for a treat. I don’t know if the duo Scorsese-DeNiro ever made a bad movie together, but certainly not this time!

PREMISE

It’s a movie about a guy whose dream it is to be the King of Comedy and he will do ANYTHING to get an audition. Therefore, he harasses a great TV host/comedian to give him a chance and things start to get weird. But “better to be the king for one night, than a schmock for a lifetime!”, as the main character states during the film.

PERFOMRANCES

This movie lives from the great performance by Robert DeNiro. He totally steals the show in every frame. Btw. He is in every single frame of the movie I think.
I also love the performance by Sandra Bernhard. Just like DeNiro she has great lines and makes you feel super awkward. Also, holy shit she can sing! But other than DeNiro’s character she plays a groupie who would also do anything to you know…

CONCLUSION

All in all it’s an awesome film that shows you that there is truly crazy people out there who will just never stop. Besides, being a famous person is hard because you will have to deal with such people around you. Not sure if it’s a true story, but it feels like it.
