Interesting story about the most disastrous climbing expedition on Mount Everest. In its core it’s a disaster movie, but it nicely showcases what goes into climbing Mt. Everest. The images were very powerful and I can imagine that watching the movie in IMAX 3D would be the way to go to get the full experience.
The characters, played by an all star cast btw. (s.poster), are very fleshed out, so when shit starts to go down, your really feel for them. Each one of them has his own motivation climbing the mountain and taking that risk of dying while trying.
I never knew how much goes into the organization of oxygen bottles. If you spend just a little too much time on the mountain you run danger of not getting back because your oxygen runs out. It will cause all sorts of exhaustion effects. My personal favorite: Hypothermia, when the climber suddenly feels hot and wants to remove all his clothes, before quickly freezing to death.
Anyway, this movie sparked my interest in Mt Everest and it’s crazy to think that many people who died on that mountain (> 200) their bodies can still be found on the trail frozen and preserved. Check that website for more info.
